Garrett Gemini 20x80 LW Binocular or Orion 20x80 Astronomy Binoculars?
what do you reccomend to get for astronomy?
i got a piece of crap pair of 10-30x60 binos... they suck nuts!
And yes i'm getting a tri-pod with them
If you are going to hand-hold them, I would say neither. But I do own two binoculars from Garrett -- both in the Gemini series. 10x50 and 25x100 (the 25x100 need a real hefty mount), and I would certainly buy from them again. I like the long eye-relief, since I need glasses when I use binoculars a lot of the time, and the prices are as good as it gets for the quality. I also have difficulty merging images so being able to collimate the prisms (as the Gemini series allows) is also a plus.
Like Orion, Garrett's customer service is very good.
If you are going to hand-hold them most of the time, I would suggest nothing higher than 15x70 for both magnification and weight, and perhaps even smaller for many people. If you don't already own a pair, you should start with a 10x50 as they will be used most often for many sky-gazers.
